A VISIT TO THE CRASH SITE

AND SURROUNDING AREA

August 2003

An unusually hot and dry summer in the UK was the background to a long planned and long awaited visit to the area in Wales where C- Charlie and her crew met their fate.

The first visit on the agenda was to pay my respects to the members of the crew from overseas, their graves, according to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission were in Towyn Cemetery. It transpired that there are in fact three cemeteries in Towyn. The first one on the road into the town lies in beautiful green rolling countryside, a very peaceful place, it seemed fitting for fallen heroes and so it was, as this is where we found their graves. Each marked by the standard pattern CWGC headstone, kept neat & clean in a garden area with flowers carefully grown around them.

This was the nearest it was possible to get to my uncle's comrades and after some quiet reflection I saluted them and left, knowing without a doubt that "at the going down of the sun and in the morning" they are remembered.
