| 'Bill' Collett was born in the
town of Waipawa, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand on 16th August
1922.
His
parents were Henry Charles and Annie Mildred Collett, his
father had a military career, serving in Africa during
The Boer War and in France during the First World War.
Bill had three sisters Gwenyth, Jane and Jocelyn and two
brothers, Albert (Chum) and Max. His brother Max still
lives in New Zealand, in Napier in the Hawke's Bay
region. All three brothers travelled to England during
the war, Max flew Spitfires with Fighter Command,
