He was the Bomb Aimer aboard SR-C and at the time of the accident would have been
busy with the practice bomb run/drop part of the exercise.
Up to December 2007 information about Christopher had been hard to find, but I'm very happy to say I am now
in contact with his cousin Dave Baker from Hampshire and am very grateful for the following information
and wonderful photograph of Christopher taken during training in Canada

The following is the information provided by Dave Baker I have been doing family history since 1990 and have quite a good memory of the past, but I was only 8 when Christopher was killed, also my sister and I were evacuated for the first part of the war, but these are my memories. Christopher Leonard Coleman. Born April 1922 at 9 Upper Richmond Road SW 15. To Frederick & Ada Emily Coleman. (Ada Emily nee Almond) Christopher being the youngest of three children, from a baby the family lived at 103 Merton Road Wandsworth London, his parents lived there until their deaths. 1933-1939 He attended Wandsworth High School. He joined the RAF and did most of his training in Canada In Canada he got engaged to Margaret & I understood his Mother carried on corresponding with her for a number of years. Christopher was a keen Rugby player playing for his school, he loved Deana Durban, and Jazz records He is buried in Putney Vale Cemetery Stag Lane Putney Grave 334 Block ES next to the Crematorium. An interesting co-incidence Dave once worked at Evershed and Vignoles as did my uncle, DAJ Holloway - the rear gunner. |
